HQS Volume 4 - Mellotronix

The Mellotron is one of the most unique electronic instruments ever made, and the trademark sound of prog-rock bands from the 1970's. This Dash Sound Library features classic Mellotron sounds sampled at every key over its 35 key range. You can now enjoy the truly authentic sound of this timeless classic!

Minnie's Magnus Chord Organ - free dash sound library!!!

The Magnus Chord Organ is a lovely, eccentric relic from the musical dustbin. Powered by a simple (and noisy) fan that pushes air over reeds, the Magnus has a sound not dissimilar to an accordian or harmonium, but much less 'refined' due to its cheap, clunky build for the home organ market - this certainly contributes in a big way to its charm for those with an appreciation for quirky sounds.

This Magnus Chord Organ was sampled by blortblort.  Two DASHsnd files are included. The first features each key sampled and looped. The second features the broken up lo-fi sound of the chord keys mapped so that C1 - B1 features all major chords, and C2 - E3 features all minor chords.

There are also a number of  third party libraries available  for EVE 2:

Dangerous Bear Underground

dBu produces the Genesis Sound Library for EVE 2, a comprehensive sample collection that goes beyond the original 'vintage keys' EVE paradigm and combines classic sounds with more experiemntal textures.

Les Productions Zvon

Les Productions Zvon make music and sound effect libraries of diverse original material. Notable products include their brilliant Prepared Rhodes, and the Zvon Marching Horn.

Nucleus Sound Lab

Nucleus Sound Lab produces OB Resurrection, a sound library based on a large collection of waveforms from a number of Oberheim synths. Oberheim Resurrection is a great compliment to the vintage synth sounds in the Dash Sound Library Range.

FAQ - Questions About The DASHsnd Sample Format

What is a Dash Sound File (DASHsnd)?

A Dash Sound (also called "Dash Soundset" or DASHsnd like the extension of the actual file), is a multi-sample proprietary format that is an audio file including many samples recorded from one or more musical instruments. A Dash Sound on your hard disk is a [NameHere].DASHsnd file. E.G., Solina-Strings.DASHsnd

How can I play a DASHsnd file?

A DASHsnd must be loaded in a sample player which supports theDASHsnd format. The main DASHsnd player is the EVE 2 software instrument which is available for Windows PC and Mac OS X, both as an Audio Unit and a VSTi.

The other official player is TDP (Twin Dash Player) which is included with any Dash Sound Library at no extra cost. (see "Compatible Players" below for more options.)

What type of instruments/sounds are available in the DASHsnd format and with which features?

The DASHsnd format was specifically designed for electronic "vintage" keyboards emulation, to reproduce the sound of hardware like Rhodes EP, Mellotron, analog strings machines, organs and other "oldtime" polyphonic synthesizers. The DASHsnd format is mono (stereo image is created in the player), 32 bit depth, and can be played at any sample rate. A single DASHsnd can host up to 16384 individual sound samples (recorded notes) using up to 128 velocity layers, but generally, a lot less are used. E.G., for a good Rhodes EP 219 sound samples are enough, sampling all the 73 keys at three different velocities. Vintage keyboards like the Mellotron and Solina don't require velocity layers for accurate emulation.

What is an HQS Dash Sound Library?

An HQS Dash Sound Library is a collection of DASHsnd files, with presets for a number of different players. A preset is an optional preconfiguration of the player; actually you don't require a preset to play a DASHsnd as you can easily create your own in EVE or TDP.

Can I create my own DASHsnd files?

Yes, please check the "Creation and Conversion of Dash Sound files" section

Compatible Players

There are several VST plugins that support audio samples in the DASHsnd format. Presets, however, are specific to each VSTi.
